Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
DuraFlex Chimney Cleaning in Jamaica, NY | Flint Chimney Co Hempstead
DuraFlex chimney cleaning in Jamaica costs $189 – $389 for a standard sweep and inspection, and we’re the independent crew that works on these liners in the pre-war row houses and 1920s-40s attached homes all over the neighborhood. Most jobs are done same-day, and every price is in writing before the first tool comes off the truck. Call (516) 559-6922 for a free estimate.
We are Flint Chimney Co Hempstead, part of the Garrison Partners family founded in 2002. We service DuraFlex systems across Jamaica service area as an independent provider, not a manufacturer affiliate. Our crews know how the thin 316L flex liner behaves when it’s been sitting in a Jamaica chimney for a decade or more. That’s the difference between a sweep that just knocks creosote loose and a service call that catches a failing top plate before it rots your firebox.
Why Jamaica Residents Choose Us for DuraFlex Service
The short answer: we’ve worked on our Duraflex services in Jamaica’s specific housing stock long enough to know what goes wrong and where. The attached brick and wood-frame homes from the early 1900s to 1950s mostly have original clay tile flue liners. When a DuraFlex liner goes in, it’s usually retrofitted inside that old clay, a job that has to be done carefully in tight offset transitions. If it’s not, the flex kinks or flattens near the smoke shelf and the draft never recovers.
Hank Delano runs our crews. He learned the trade at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College before moving east, and spent the better part of two decades running chimney cleaning crews across Nassau County. He’s known for straight answers on liner condition and not quoting work a chimney does not actually need. We follow the same standard on every DuraFlex job in Jamaica: put the scope, price, and guarantee in writing before any work starts.
We carry genuine DuraFlex liner sections, couplers, and top plates. When a part isn’t available, we match the 316L or aluminum alloy spec and document it clearly. Mixing alloys invites galvanic corrosion, and we won’t do that to your chimney.

Common DuraFlex Chimney Cleaning Problems We Solve in Jamaica
These are the five failures we see most often when a Jamaica homeowner calls us about a DuraFlex system. If you recognize one, call (516) 559-6922.
- Pinhole corrosion where the liner touches damp clay tile shards. Old clay tiles crack over decades, leaving sharp shards against the flex liner. Jamaica’s salt-laden air from Jamaica Bay accelerates the corrosion at those contact points. A camera inspection shows the pinholes before they become a chimney fire risk.
- Ribbed-wall creosote accumulation in seldom-used fireplaces. Jamaica’s humid summers cause creosote to build up in the ribs of a standard DuraFlex 316L liner. If the fireplace only gets used occasionally, that creosote hardens and restricts draft. Worse, it becomes fuel for a flue fire. We remove it with rotary brushes sized to the liner’s exact diameter.
- Liner kinking or flattening near the smoke shelf. In older Jamaica row houses, the offset clay tile transition near the smoke shelf is tight. If the original install forced the flex past that offset, the liner kinks. Draft suffers, and the kinked section eventually splits. We find this on camera, then cut it out and splice in a new section with the correct coupler.
- Torn or dried-out top plate silicone gaskets. The top plate seals the gap between the flex liner and the original flue. When that silicone dries out or tears, water runs between the liner and the clay tile. You’ll see rust streaks on the damper and a rust ring on the firebox floor. This is the most common DuraFlex problem in Jamaica, and it shows up fast on the flush-crown row houses along Hillside Avenue.
- Loose or missing liner caps. A missing cap lets rain straight into the liner. On attached Jamaica homes with shared chimney stacks, one missing cap can affect two neighbors. We install proper caps with screened tops and verify the seal with a water test before we leave.
DuraFlex Service in Jamaica: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Equipment
Here’s the thing about Jamaica’s older brick row houses that most chimney companies never mention: on the 1930s-era homes along Hillside Avenue, the original chimney crowns were often poured flush with the roofline. No overhang, no drip edge. That means any rain that hits the top of the chimney runs straight down the brick face and into the flue. For a DuraFlex liner, the weak point is the top plate. If that top plate silicone gasket isn’t sealed correctly, water gets between the liner and the original clay tile, and every freeze-thaw cycle in a Jamaica winter pushes that water deeper into the masonry. Freezing water expands and deforms the flex. Come spring, you’ve got a rust ring on the firebox floor and a draft that feels weak for no obvious reason. We fix it by resealing the top plate with high-temp silicone and coating the crown to stop water bypass at the source. Our competition in adjacent Queens neighborhoods rarely sees this failure because those crowns were built with a drip edge.
DuraFlex Models & Products We Service in Jamaica
We clean, inspect, and repair every DuraFlex liner line installed in Jamaica homes with Jamaica Chimney Sweep and repair services:
- DuraFlex 316L Flexible Chimney Liner – the standard stainless flex for wood-burning fireplaces and stoves.
- DuraFlex Pro 316L Multi-Fuel Liner – heavier-gauge flex rated for higher flue temperatures.
- DuraFlex Hybrid Liner – smooth inner wall with ribbed outer, which sheds creosote better than full-ribbed flex. The smooth inner matters in Jamaica’s humid summers because less creosote accumulates in the first place.
- DuraFlex Aluminum Appliance Liner – for gas and oil appliances, not for wood. We see these in Jamaica homes that converted old coal fireplaces to gas inserts decades ago.
We use genuine DuraFlex sections and couplers whenever possible. When an original part isn’t available, we match the alloy spec and document it on the invoice. You’ll never get a mismatched part that sets up galvanic corrosion between two different metals in a salt-air environment like Jamaica.

FAQs – DuraFlex Chimney Cleaning in Jamaica
Yes, if it’s maintained right. The 316L alloy resists salt corrosion well, but only where clean metal stays exposed. Pinholes form where the liner touches damp clay shards or where top plate gaskets fail and salt water sits against the flex. Annual cleaning and a camera inspection catch these before they worsen. Call (516) 559-6922 to schedule.
Look for a rust ring staining the firebox floor after rain, or rust streaks on the damper. Peel back and check the metal around the top plate for white or green corrosion. Pulling the cap and water-testing the seal is the only definitive way. On flush-crown Hillside Avenue row houses, a top plate leak is the leading cause of early DuraFlex liner failure. If you see a rust stain, call (516) 559-6922; we’ll camera the liner and show you exactly where the water is entering.
Yes. The ribs create ledges where creosote forms and hardens, especially in a humid Jamaica summer when the flue stays damp. A smooth-wall or hybrid liner sheds creosote better because there’s less surface for deposits to grab. If you have a ribbed-wall liner, we recommend annual cleaning and possibly a creosote treatment to keep buildup manageable. Call (516) 559-6922 for a quote on either.
If the flex is still round and the pinholes are isolated, we patch them with DuraFlex’s approved steel band and high-temp sealant. The repair and a written one-year guarantee are included. If the liner has multiple pinholes or the flex has deformed from freeze-thaw damage, we recommend a partial or full reline. We’ll show you the camera footage so you can see what we’re seeing. Call (516) 559-6922 if you suspect pinholes.
Often, yes. The old clay tiles in Jamaica’s early-1900s attached homes have cracked and shifted over time. Installing a new flex liner inside broken clay shards risks pinhole corrosion at the contact points. We break out and remove damaged tiles before relining. The job takes longer but prevents the exact failure pattern we see across Jamaica. Call (516) 559-6922 for an assessment of your existing flue.
